Beransa: An Effective Treatment For Arthritis In Dogs

Beransa (active ingredient: Bedinvetmab) is now a well-established medication used to help manage pain associated with canine osteoarthritis. It works as a monoclonal antibody that targets nerve growth factor — a key component in the pain-signalling pathway.

By binding to nerve growth factor, Beransa reduces pain transmission and helps decrease the overall discomfort linked with osteoarthritis. Although it does not cure the condition, many dogs experience improved comfort, mobility and quality of life. A similar product, Solensia, is available for cats.

Because Beransa is a naturally occurring protein, it places minimal strain on the kidneys and liver, making it a safer alternative to traditional anti-inflammatory medications commonly used in arthritis management.

Beransa is administered as a once-monthly injection under the skin, similar to a vaccination. Side effects are uncommon, though mild injection-site reactions can occasionally occur. Short-term concurrent use with non-steroidal anti-inflammatories has been tested and found appropriate; however, long-term combined use has not yet been fully assessed. Beransa is not recommended for breeding, pregnant or lactating animals, or dogs under 12 months of age.

Studies have shown Beransa can improve a dog’s general activity levels, mobility, comfort, and overall enjoyment of life while reducing pain severity.
